On May 28 from 1:00 till 5:00 PM (Moscow time) a telethon, "The Russian Athos," will be broadcast by the Russian Tsargrad TV channel, timed to coincide with the visit of the Russian President and Patriarch Kirill to the Holy Mountain. Tsargrad journalists along with Vladimir Putin and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will take part in festive events on Mt. Athos and televiewers will be able to watch it live.
At the Tsargrad studio in Moscow historians,
politicians, public figures and people of art will speak
about the phenomenon of Holy Mount Athos, Russian-Athonite
relations and their own pilgrimage experience. The program
will also cover the events which were organized not only
in Russia and Greece but also in the whole of the Orthodox
world.
During intervals the viewers will be able to familiarize
themselves with the history of monasticism on Mt. Athos,
the modern life of Athonite monks and to learn why the
numerous monasteries on the Holy Mountain have preserved
their spiritual significance for pilgrims over the ten
centuries of their history.
